Re: CT60 Fix - still no

Thanks, I will look into other versions of the firmware as you specify.

The CTCM seems to be working properly, but the CPX does not display frequency the same way that it used to, which may have added to my confusion. I'm not sure I completely understand what it is doing with latest firmware, but benchmarks show that it is setting the correct frequency. Still, the bigger problem is that the computer will still not boot even I remove the CTCM and use a fixed 66mhz oscillator. I will get back to the CTCM once the Falcon will boot at all, since it may have completely different problems to resolve and I need to reduce the number of variables.

I have tried the two versions of the ABE and SDR that were available on the Powerphenix page, as well as the one from my hard drive which I think I had been using until a few weeks ago. So far, no version will permit the Falcon to boot. I have also tried at least three different versions of TOS from Didier, including the original version I was using and the current CT60TOS and CTPCI version. The only way I have found to boot, is if I send the verify command from a PC connected with a JTAG cable using the Xilinx Impact software. This applies to both earlier or later versions of ABE, SDR, and TOS firmware, as well as 030 or 060 mode.

I discovered this completely by accident, since I meant to click on "Program" and hit "Verify" instead, only to be surprised when my Falcon decided to boot for the first time since all of this went wrong. Now, if I want to test anything suggested here or what Rodolph suggests, I have to use this verify method, since there is no other way I am aware of to get the computer to boot.

I was hoping the SDR verify allowing boot might give some clue as to what is preventing the Falcon from starting. The only other thing I can think of that could be related is the capacitor that is installed to change startup delay for use with an external ATX power supply. The Powerphenix page indicates this may be needed to prevent black screen, which is what I am getting. I already have the capacitor installed and have used the CT60 this way for years, but wonder if I may have to change to a different value now after flashing.

The changelog for the more recent firmware does seem to indicate changes to several timing related matters, so I speculate that my Falcon was on the edge of not booting correctly, but these small changes have caused it to get stuck somewhere while initializing.

I can't understand why reloading older firmware does not return the computer to the previous state, but must assume some hardware change will be required before this system will ever boot again.

Thanks!
