Re: $60 Contest for CT60 Fix

Greetings,

I will have a look at the SDMA patch, although I assume this was performed by Rodolphe during installation. I was not experiencing any of the symptomatic audio crackling or instability prior to the update attempt.

I ordered some replacement NVRAM chips (and sockets) last night, since I am running out of options. Still, I'm not so sure that I can safely desolder the old one. I can remove some ICs from very old (big) circuit boards with braid/wick and an desoldering pump, although with a delicate multi-layer board like the Falcon, I'm pretty nervous about it.

I would also normally be able to clip the pins and dispose of the old part to desolder each pin individually (much easier) but in this case, since the pins are not exposed, I might cause more damage.

Could the update have sent incorrect information to the NVRAM? The computer was working properly (I was using it every day for the past month) until the moment the flash update program hung.

This is interesting, since I have two other Falcons that spontaneously died in storage; I wonder if replacing the NVRAM would bring them back to life.

Is there no way to verify or erase NVRAM from 030 mode?

What is confusing me, is why the system will boot with SDR erased, but will not boot even in 030 mode when it is programmed.

Thanks
