I will try the whole NVRAM clearing process as specified as soon as I can - I had to put my giant computer diagnostic mess away when family arrived for the weekend.
What confuses me if it is the bus speeder, is how the bus speeder could have been broken by a flash update, or why the computer worked until that moment.
Without more to test earlier, I experimented with the CTCM instead of the 66mhz oscillator. The computer was always stubborn to start with CTCM, getting stuck with no Atari logo, only text, and requiring a reset to boot properly. Now it is worse with CTCM, and it would not complete a boot even with reset or verify from the PC.
I cut the strap to divide the CTCM clock and attempted to program it properly in case it had bad values stored. I got the system to boot with CTCM with 66mhz displayed during boot. I saved the setting, resoldered the strap, and now the control panel says there is an abnormal 33mhz clock. I would like to know how to program the CTCM with the serial port because now the control panel will not go above 66mhz, so I think there is some other bad value in there.
Regarding the bus speeder in 030 mode, this never worked. The same thing happens now, where the computer will get bombs, screen garbage, or hang during boot. I assumed the boost function was only for 060 mode, and never used it with 030.
Regarding a wire that starts the boot process, remember that I made no hardware changes before the flash failure that started this. All that I did was plug in the cable, switch to 030 mode, and run the flash program. After that, the computer developed this problem. I suppose it is possible I damaged something in testing, but everything I check seems good.
I am wondering if the timing for the SDR has changed from the version I had before, and maybe my ram is a problem, or the capacitor installed for boot/delay is involved. It seems like something is not happening at the right time.
I sent a brief update to Rodolphe now that he is back to his house, about the SDR verify triggering a successful boot. We will see if he has any time for me after CTPCI business ;)
