Greetings,
1. Yes, I carefully followed the guide on that page for the PC upgrade. In my case I got an extra screen not listed there to OK/Apply for each module with settings like whether to erase before programming, and verify after programming. Otherwise it was exactly the same, and there were no errors at any step.
2. Yes, I did use NVDI in subsequent flash attempts, although it is possible that I did not use it on the first try since I may have clicked on a minimal configuration in my boot manager.
Is it possible that attempting to flash without NVDI will kill a CT60 permanently?
3. I tested with the CT60 unplugged from the expansion connectors but still attached to the speeder connector, with an original PSU. The Falcon does boot as an original 030. My previous attempt at this failed because I removed the CT60 completely, rather than leaving it connected to the bus speeder. As far as I can tell, the Falcon mainboard is fine.
Every attempt that I have made to flash the TOS, ABE, an SDR completes and verifies successfully, whether it is from the Falcon or PC - however, if the SDR is programmed at all, the Falcon will not boot with the CT60 plugged into the expansion connector. When SDR is erased, the Falcon will boot again.
I tried resetting the NVRAM in case that was involved, as I am pretty sure my battery is dead, but this did not help (I used CT60: F030free NVRAM reset). I'm not sure I can safely remove the battery IC for replacement, of if this could possibly be corrupting the flash or boot processes. The CT60 was working perfectly up until the moment I tried to update it.
The only thing I cannot try is to program with another Falcon - as this is how I succeeded the first time I updated. Unfortunately, my other two Falcons are dead, and I'm probably the last Atari user in 5000 miles.
