I did not download the file as my Anti Virus tells me the download link points to a site that contains some Trojan or similar stuff.

Anyway, there is not much to gain in the Protracker handling now (after version 9A), even if all the effects would be disabled leaving only "play sample X at period Y with volume Z" especially because of the "trash" play that averages the costs and also the eventually gained cycles.
The definite solution for this is the "pre-play" technique i used in YM50K in 2005. The mod is, as the name says, pre-played to a buffer, recording for every frame the sample pointer, the period and the volume or only the changes to the previous values. All that data is packed in memory in a way that can not be too complex so that the player does not loose much time unpacking it.
The player simply reads the data and sets the shadow DMA registers.
That costs, together with the loop checks, around 1.2 scan lines per voice or 5 scan lines for the 4 voices. Only mixer emulation has then to be done: reading, volume converting, adding, updating digi-buffer without any checks.
Of course it needs some memory, but the 5 YM50K disks showed that this was possible for a lot of mods, even long playing time ones, with a 1MB STF.
I do not plan to add that to Hacking Lance for the moment.
