One trick left to implement is a player that has a much larger dma buffer. Say you have a 50k buffer, fill it up and update as much as possible each frame (sometimes more than 500 bytes, sometimes less) to gain a more average CPU-usage, it would chop off the worst tops.

I guess it's a bit of a pain to pull off though, the lmc1992 values would need to be buffered up as well as those are real time apposed to the dma buf.


Oh and you might not know, but Lance also made an 8-channel version of the player. Available either as a plugin to Octalyser or as a stand-alone modplayer app (The Player). It plays 8-channel files fine at 50 kHz, and I do believe they added some sort of fine-tempo (cia) hack as well there :)
