Atari RGB monitors can display 50hz or 60hz U.S. TV's can't because of the lack of a vertical hold nowadays.
Also, some demos will run on RGB modes, but those modes don't work on TV's. They end up in black and white, or not work at all.
I'm not sure if I'm answering your question or not...
