Pep adequately covered the reasons why Magic is no longer a viable solution as a working OS. My favourite was the "MiNT was adopted by Atari, so it's still Atari you're using", statement, closely followed by the "MiNT was written following Atari's rules, Magic was not". If you're gonna write some software that has to interact in a multitasking system with other software, you gotta follow the rules. If something works with your dirty hacked OS then it's a bonus, but you can't 'expect' it. I personally welcome the day that the Magic owner would release his source code, so someone could fix it, and then there might be TWO usuable OS'es available for the Atari platform today.

I understand why some people still use Magic. Partly its the same reason as when I fire up my 1040STFM and play Xenon or Speedball. Nostalgia. Partly it's due to fear of trying something new, something that looks really complicated (which isn't by the way). Also, it's partly because you paid a lot of money for Magic, so you feel like you'd be throwing something away that was still valuable.

If you wanna try MiNT, now is the time. Get the latest EasyMiNT (which fixes a lot of previous gripes I had) and give it a whirl. You can always dual boot!

BTW - I certainly am NOT Exxos.
