FreeMiNT/XaAES for Dummies:
1. Start with a clean drive
2. Use a XHDI-compliant harddisk driver (i.e. HDDriver)
3. Partition the drive as described in the EasyMINT documentation (i.e. a boot FAT partition ~200mb, and a big partition of type 'LNX')
4. Install the latest version of EasyMINT
5. Upgrade to the latest kernel & XaAES versions (xaaes.atari.org)
6. Install NVDI
7. Install Centscreen (if applicable)
8. Before rebooting, re-order the auto folder as described in various docs on the net
9. Install your favourite desktop (edit XAAES.CNF accordingly)
10. Edit XAAES.CNF (if necessary)
11. Edit MINT.CNF (if necessary)
12. Edit network settings in \etc\sysconfig
13. Read everything you can about MINT (there are some docs around), especcially the parts regarding memory protection.
It may be required to control-boot (i.e. a clean boot) some times during this process in order to get things straight, but you'll figure it out.
Regarding compatibility. Stay away from dirty applications *for*ever*. Hacks are generally intended to run in TOS, allthough some less advanced operating systems allow such stuff. Think twice before putting something in the auto folder, or installing an ACC.
This is *not* a compatibility issue in mint or XaAES which some people claims. Certain applications *are* written *without* multitasking in mind, or in other ways against Ataris own recommendations. This stuff *may* be tolerated by some less talented operating systems (but cause some side effects which aren't necessarily obvious), but *will* cause trouble in any modern system such as freemint/XaAES. Ugly DOS stuff won't work in XP either, and a process in Linux cannot touch hardware directly, neither is it allowed to touch the memory of a different process. The same laws applies in freemint.
If comply, you'll will end up with a perfectly stable operating system with a nice GUI and powerful unix capabilities.
If you don't accept this and still try to run bad stuff in your machine, you're heading straight to hell.

What's the anti-troll code? That's your personal code to be able to add comments and messages on the dhs.nu site.
Don't have a code or forgot it? Fix it here.
