Re: EtherNAT and MagicNET Driv

It is a pNp solution. And a good one too. And it's free.

From a developers perspective, supporting MagiC becomes increasingly difficult. Especcially since it doesn't follow the specifications layed out by Atari themselves. Also, one cannot take advantage of new functionality added to XaAES/MyAES, since this in many cases breaks compatibility with MagiC. This stuff could probably easily be added to MagiC if it went open source, or if the developer decided to re-open the project. But right now, that isn't exactly the case.

Another good reason to use XaAES/freemint/MyAES is to support the developers and give them a reason to continue. Using MagiC means supporting some dude in a basement collecting cash without giving back to the community.

FreeMiNT is a direct descendant of MiNT, which was adopted by Atari for MultiTOS. In that sense - it's Atari - and MagiC is not.

These are just my personal thoughts on the subject. Well, I probably started a flame war now. Oh lord..
