This is not exactly true. The standalone keyboard and mouse, and even mass storage stand-alone drivers could go into TOS, so these devices can be used from Boot, and with HDdriver for example.

If I dont release the USB stack code into the GPL, there will at the very least be a fully documented API to use. To be honest, once the stack is complete (and stable) its the class drivers that will need the work, ie adding support for new devices. This is where the time will be spent, as the Amiga USB guy Chris - spends a load of his free time supporting his USB stack and writing new class drivers. But then, he does charge quite a bit of money and that was the intention from the start.
If I can write a good well documented stack and API, and people take interest in writing the class drivers themselves then everyone wins.
