CT63 problems
Posted by: JosteinT May,07.2009-03:22

My CT63 from the latest batch now refuses to boot in 060 mode, and exhibits the following symptoms:

1. My VGA monitor says "Frequency out of range: HF 15.7kHz, VF 50Hz" (indicating RGB frequencies). This happens regardless of how the boot video is set in the CPX. In 030 mode it boots normally, using whatever video setting is configured.

I had this problem once before, but it disappeared when I replaced my home-made VGA adapter with an original Atari adapter. Now I get the same fault with both. I don't have an RGB adapter for my Falcon, so I don't know if it's actually outputting a valid RGB video signal.

2. Booting in 030 mode, I get the "Unknown flash device!" error in the CT60 Config CPX. I've tried several versions, including the one from the CT60_PCI archive, to no avail. The settings that are saved in NVRAM are saved ok, but the CT63-specific settings are not saved.

FLASH060.PRG also gives the same error; v. 1.6 says "Unknown flash device! ($21CD21CD)", and version 1.8 (from CT60_PCI archive) says "Unknown flash device! ($180018FF)".

My CT63 has worked before, and seems relatively stable when it does boot. I believe the SDRAM is ok, since it tested OK during boot before.

I've also been able to save settings in the CPX and reflash the firmware without problems in the past. My firmware is the recommended v. 1.03c.

My Falcon motherboard has all of the HW mods that Rodolphe recommends, and I've replaced the NVRAM chip (works fine as far as I can tell; time/date, keyboard, boot video, etc. are all saved ok). Resetting the NVRAM with the keyboard combo during 030 boot does not fix the problems I have now.

I've even re-flowed all the solder joints on the connectors where the CT63 sits on the motherboard, thinking maybe there was a cracked joint, but that made no difference.

I hope that someone can help me out, as I've pretty much run out of ideas. Rodolphe has been kind enough to help me out a couple of times already, so I thought I'd turn to the community before I bother him again.

Regards,
JosteinT
