Re: How to programming ST sound ?

The YM doesn't support all of the combinations effects possible in today's trackers like maxYMiser, MusicMon 2 and Triplex. All of these trackers can work with the SNDH format, or there is a way to convert to it.

If you just want to make sound effects like explosions, engine sounds etc then YM format would most likely be good enough though.

If you mean effects like syncbuzzer, sine wave, SID etc then YM format wouldn't be.

The soundchip itself is quite easy to use, the best place to start is the YM2149 data sheet.

To make it do all the effects you hear in modern chipmusic is much more difficult.. but to make some sound effects you'll find you can get good results without too much work.

a machine like the STe has a chip that can playback 8bit samples which is great for in game sounds.
