I get exactly this with the 4 bombs however there is a way round it. just before it boots into magic after loading hddriver hold down both the shift keys.
Example
when i first boot I let the autoprograms run then it detects magxboot.prg and soft reboots after this it loads hddriver and displays the drivers then when the magic logo appears on the screen hold down both shift keys untill you get the error about nvram.
