1) Did the machine ever boot with the ct60 on?
The machine was working properly until a few weeks ago when I attached the JTAG cable and attempted to upgrade the SDR and ABE programming from 030 mode. The FLASH060 program froze during flashing, so after waiting a few minutes to try and make sure it would not resume, I attempted to reset the Falcon. After that, it would not boot again, even in 030 mode, but displayed only a black screen. Since then, I successfully updated and verified the SDR and ABE from a separate computer, and also tried older versions of the ABE and SDR files, but could not return the computer to the previous operational state.
Since then. the only way that I have found to get the Falcon to boot if the CT60 is connected to the expansion bus, in either 030 and 060 mode, is as follows:
1. Falcon is powered on and displaying a black screen
2. Xilinx impact software is running on a PC that is connected to the Falcon using a parallel JTAG cable
3. A verify of the SDR jedec is performed in the Impact program, which results in an immediate boot of the Falcon
I learned this by accident when I accidentally clicked verify on the PC and the computer booted for the first time since my failed flash attempt. This procedure may not be important, but at least seems to indicate the CT60 is functioning. Once booted, it seems exactly as before, even with the updated TOS, ABE, and SDR programming.
2) Can you try removing the bus accel and try booting?
If I remove the bus accelerator connector from the CT60, the machine will not boot. I have been told that once the modifications for the bus acceleration are made, the computer can no longer operate when it is not connected to that cable. I have not attempted to reverse the bus acceleration modifications, since Rodolphe was the person that installed mine, and I'm not sure that I have the skill to undo it safely.
3) Just to double check, it's important that you hold reset for at LEAST 5 seconds. Time it down with a stopwatch, even 4 secs sometimes doesn't work!
I will try verify this with a timer as soon as I get the system out again. What can I do to fix the problem if it does boot after a 5 second reset press?
4) What about your PSU? What voltage/wattage is it? Have you tried replacing it with another?
I have tried both the external ATX and two factory PSUs, with the same black screen results. I haven't thought of how it could be that flashing the CT60 could affect the PSU, or how verifying from a PC would allow the PSU to function properly, but can test the voltages to be sure.
5) Have you tried removing hard drive(s) and floppy? Keyboard altogether?
Yes. I have also tried a flash based floppy emulator, factory keyboard, and eiffel keyboard adapter during testing. I've tried all kinds of things, but of course have to remind myself that the only thing I changed that caused the system to stop working, was the SDR or ABE programming.
6) Does the machine boot at 030 mode?
The machine will boot in 030 mode in two ways:
a. CT60 is installed in expansion bus
b. CT60 is connected to bus accelerator cable
c. SDR verify is performed from the PC
or
a. CT60 is disconnected from the expansion bus
b. Mainboard expansion jumper is replaced
c. CT60 remains connnected to the bus accelerator connector
I think this means the mainboard is okay, but unfortunately I do not have another working Falcon where I can test the CT60, so I can't completely determine if the problem is with the CT60 vs the Falcon mainboard.
Thanks!
