About the distortions. I used to have those when using 25mhz mb, but I switched out my ST RAM and now they are gone even at VERY high resolution!

Why you can't do above 800x608x256c is either the software you're using, or the monitor. Even with a stock 16mhz mb, I'm getting FAR better than 800x608x256c on a CRT @16mhz mb.

On a 25mhz mb, I get over 1100x900x256c with a CRT.

On a 16mhz mb, my 16 modes are outrageous, 1712x1294x16c as shown here:

My only thing now is to get used to LCD's. They sync down FAR which is what you want in a CRT. Currently, I've gone down to 22khz horizontal scan rate! This means VERY high True Color modes. The only problem is that they are temperamental. I just have to get used to them I suppose.
