the exa player (and also gwem's/swe's gfa sndh timing routs) use a high priority timer to check when to play a 'tick'. in the exa player the mixing is executed in the vbl. probably to counter the effect that mikro is experiencing.. however, depending on the mod tempo and the vbl frequency, this may sound pretty horrible.. like musicians stumbling over their own feet ;) (don't know how to explain it better ;))
