all right.. that was informative.
what i intended to post was:
using word or longword copies to copy the palette to hw registers is the right way. if you do it first thing in the vbl everything should be fine.
however, it's easy to put other crap in the vbl, such as audio routs. these eat alot of cpu mostly and force your video routs down to the visible part of the screen.. this happened to me once. also, it could be that other interrupt activity (timer A?) is delaying it?
