Just a quick note: v3.1 is the latest of the actual modplayer.
The other newer versions are just different workarounds to make the player work on accelerators as well as replacing the DSP bootstrap code that the player corrupts. Still useful stuff, but the dspmod.tce binary blob is intact from v3.1.
Bitmaster released the DSPMOD sources as GPL back in 2005, here you can download that archive:

There is also a source archive that is not official, which circulated earlier than 2005, the content is a bit different:

If the goal is to save cycles and not to make it easy; the player by DNT Crew is much more efficient since it transfers the sample data over DMA instead of host port. I know Thomas / New Beat worked quite a bit on it for use in the Willie game, I don't think he finished the work however.
By just playing a 4-channel song, the DNT player is much faster than Dspmod. However, the player is french and that means a some specialties ;-) Like custom file format (converter from Protracker supplied) and I think it might need work to function on anything but a 030/16 machine.
