Software compatible - hum - there is this AY 3-8910 chip which is meant to be a fully replacement of the YM2149 in the ST, both software and hardware wise.
But: a recent post on Atari-Forum in the YM section says that the chips fully sound different.
I'm no sound guru but what benefits will occur from a chip that is software compatible when the produced audio sounds different?
