It's much slower than the host port. Falcon audio-dma is 50066Hz * 16bits * 8 channels, approx 800kbyte/sec.
However it is more than enough to transfer a packed mpeg-audio stream in real-time to dsp, which leaves the cpu all free for other tasks (the dma transfers the mpeg data and the dsp decodes it and send the waveform right to the dac).
