I don't think there is protection of any kind on ST range, maybe on later Ataris there were? I seem to remember reading some article in old Atari mags about how often the YM got taken out, can also render your floopy disk useless (YM does a little to help the floppy controller).
A quick glance at the Falcon schematics, shows no protection at all. Be careful, add your own external series resistors.
