Sounds like you're about to do some tinkering ;-)
I saw many PC motherboards dead because of people connecting live printers (they didn't turn them off) to their PC's and it killed the southbridge. I don't think the Atari's centronics port is this vulnerable, but please try what you're thinking on an STFM, not on your Falcon :-)
