here are my experiences - I received my rev 6 from the last batch (spring 2005):
well, one thing is certain - all 060 chips are not the same, some may go op to 100 MHz, some may not - it is the same with all modern processors...
but, in this particular case - sdram, sdram controller, sdr firmware and ct60 board (traces) and heat add to this...First of all, cpu has to be cooled properly. You may even put a small heatsink on sdram controller since it also gets heated at 100 Mhz...I managed to boot at 100 MHz with old and buggy firmware (4G I think) and run it for some time, but with 5E there is no chance of booting (sdram failure message)...I suppose that ironing bugs obviously demanded some additional lines in firmware code and although these extra lines correct the bugs they also demand some extra time which some 060 (and some CT60 boards?) cannot catch...So, the question is whether to have buggy firmware or run at 90 MHz...;)
I tested around 15 sdram modules, even those which surely run on other 100 MHz CT60 (fellow atarian sent me his 100 MHz working sdram modules and they didn't work on mine) and most of them (newer cl3 and cl2 regardless of the size) run well at 90 Mz - of those I tested on my machine infineon was not really good at higher frequencies, kingston and kingmax cl2 were really good...It is always better to have cl2 sdram module. Don't save money on memory since it is essential part of the computer.
good psu is essential for any normal and stable operation and it has to be fast enough (response wise) and deliver stable voltages...since I even had experience with mad psu which burned some components in my computer it should at least have active pfc...
I even had a strange experience with unstable oscillator :) I was convinced that machine was not stable until I replaced the oscillator...<grin>
so, have fun and enjoy ct60 at any possible stable speed :)

What's the anti-troll code? That's your personal code to be able to add comments and messages on the dhs.nu site.
Don't have a code or forgot it? Fix it here.
