Okay, now I know how to created palletted 256 color wallpapers. I am hoping to be able to use a true-color wallpaper.
As far as I have been able to tell, Jinnee does not allow the use of anything more than a 256 color IMG; however, picdesk does. I have been able to load 320x240 and 320x480 true color images, converted to 24-bit IMG using Imagecopy or True Image. This works, but obviously doesn't cover the screen. I don't speak French, but the docs for Picdesk seem to suggest that I may be able to adjust the screen buffer size by altering the NEWDESK.INF or MAGX.INF files:
"La taille du buffer o— est charg‚e l'image est d‚termin‚e … l'aide du
fichier NEWDESK.INF (ou MAGX.INF si MAGIC est pr‚sent), elle est
r‚serv‚e au d‚marrage ou au changement de r‚solution vid‚o sur FALCON
(lancement du GEM)."
Any chance I'm reading this correctly? In any case, the problem seems to be that Picdesk does not allocate enough memory for a larger screen image than 320x480, and I would like to determine if there is a way of increasing this buffer size.
