The coder did it that way because he typed it in and it worked. :-)
It's clearly a bug but a nasty one to implement in Hatari because I bet the stack is somehow in such a state on real hardware that it doesn't crash.
Maybe the non-interrupt code put something on the stack, RTI pulled that out, then again something is put on the stack etc. And it is all very time sensitive.
