I tried this once. You can do this quite easily (disable the PMMU unit, no big deal) but must be careful not to use the short addressing modes then ($ffff8260.w). As far as I remember the speed gain wasn't noticeable.

You have far better chances with the data cache, i.e. not caching stuff while writing to video ram (or similar, large buffers). I'm pretty sure Doug could tell you all about it (his proposal was to create a separate memory region mapped as cache inhibit) but the simplest scenario is to 'freeze' the cache before writing.
