Hi

Just concurring with others really.

I took over the archive from BDC/Aura way back in the early 90's.

We had a debate at that time whether to go along the Amiga route and to separate the music players from the song/instrument data. Eagle/Deli players along with the Amiga YM emulator by Mr Styckx followed this path.

That would have helped and speeded up the compatibility process but we've got to remember that there are many more exotic formats on the ST than the Amiga.

Back in the late 80's most games used custom formats. Many composers tinkered and updated their own replay routines. For example there are perhaps 20 Jochen Hippel formats ranging from his original Little Color Demo routine and the early ST News article example right through to his 7 voice TFMX digital routine and sid/buzzer stuff (TFMX-MMME). So Mirko's idea of a ready script is flawed with the exception of players like Megatizer, xlr8, blipblopper ad Magic Synth. Manual editing , dis-assembling would be the only way forward.

Evil is right, I would estimate 80% of tunes work on 060*, most don't do anything fancy (read, no :- smc, low mem, movep, hogging registers etc). Modern players should also work on fast chips ala Maxymiser, SSD and Music Mon.

As GGN said, we asked for a list of non-working tunes eons ago, maybe if people posted to the SNDH BBS i'll take a look. Though at the moment my priority is ripping and converting un-SNDH'd tunes, believe me there are still 100's of tunes to rip!

Finally my biggest hurdle is I only own a stock 030 4mb Falcon. I ensure all my SNDH's are tested on ST, MegaSTE and 030 Falcon using KrapTTP which has routines to assist in 030 compatibility.

*However if someone wishes to donate a CT60 then I'm more that willing to delve into great compatibility :)
