No worries.
Have a look at this http://homepage.ntlworld.com/frank.bullen/SCALER.zip for some code on how to use the halftone RAM and smudge mode for blitter "tricks".
It's in rather hacky c ;)
The project should build with lattice/
You can use the blitter for scaling and hlflipping bitmaps using smudge mode.
