Hello,
At first: I have no mentionable c++ coding skills, nor am I a MiNT pro. But I am a big atari fan who can type ./configure, make and make install and of course copy some files ;-) But I am really willing to compile some sdl stuff on atari (CT60).
Okay, for my first "project" I did chose a very easy one (I thought): http://toppler.sourceforge.net . Just simple 2D graphics and one if my favorite games on Atari 7800.
Okay, after some emailing with Patrice (thanks for your patient help!), I managed to get sdl and ldg working on my mint setup. Working means, that if I enter sdl-config --version, Iīll get 1.2.13 back (YEAH!!!) and ./configure does find sdl >= 1.20.
But it complains about zlib which is not installed, so I downloaded it from sparemint, but rpm tells me that package is already installed, the same with the -devel.rpm. Okay, I thought and did search the net and found zlib 1.2.3 (latest version) ported to atari at http://www.atari-world.com . But still the same error.
A 2nd, minor problem is, that sdl-mixer isnīt found by ./configure, although I did install it the same way as sdl (copying it to my ext2fs). Other things I tried to port NEED that, so the ./configure stopps. Toppler tells me that itīll have no sound, whatīs okay for the beginning ;-)
Okay, my questions: could someone explain me step by step, where I have to copy the files that they will be found and whether I have to configure the libraries (zlib, sdl-mixer - they have no "script" in usr/local/bin like sdl has with sdl-config) somehow or not.
I am sure that in a ready to use development environment, compiling such things should not be too difficult (at least a Linux user I know told me that, just typing "./configure, make, make install" and you have a working binary).
Please help me as I am really encouraged and disappointed, because spending the last nights in front of my falcon without being at least a bit productive REALLY sucks!
