yep, i've had my copy for about 4 years now, until then i used a variety of tools on pc (dpaint pc, grafx2, photoshop, psp).. all of those are recommended pieces of software, as are those recommended by lance, but none of them can match promotion when it comes to raw performance for <256 cols gfx. (imho!)
but more than for any other software, art packages are a very individual choice. i've seen stuff made in MSPaint, TruePaint, Corel Photopaint, and many other supposedly "crap" graphics progs that could beat their "professionally made" opponents any day. what works for me doesn't necessarily have to work for you too, and vice versa.. so be sure to try all the tools you can get your hands on, and never forget: "what looks good IS good" :))
