With respect to the last thread, I've noticed a couple of other things which might be relevant to the discussion.
1. People used to release preview versions of what they were doing, especially games. They don't tend to do so now, and prefer to go all the way to the finished version.
2. They are also a lot less talkative, afraid of hyping up expectations in case something isn't finished. (Which makes it kind of hard to get feedback if a project is secret?!)
