You were referring to: "mot-syntax: A SECTION directive with a single argument is interpreted as section type when the selected output format does not support section names (e.g. aout, tos, xfile). Otherwise the type defaults to code, using the given argument as section name."

So the change was about removing the behaviour you describe for a.out (i.e. our atari) format. But I think I get it now - you were referring to the last sentence, right? I guess it's worth asking Frank about it. I think it has its roots in Amiga style of coding where they use named sections quite often so maybe it made sense to him.
