So as far as I can currently tell, with the lack of a VIDEL, the current upper limits on additional GEM desktop graphics modes for the STE are 640 x 400 with four colours, and 320 x 400 with sixteen colours. Is there anything planned for breaking or extending these any further?
Yup, the video selection will be constrained depending on the machine that TOS is built for. Specifically for STEs we employ the trick that gives 16 extra pixels (like "Claus" said), but for the life of me I can't remember how to enable this! There's also an idea to provide bigger resolutions via hardware scrolling but I honestly don't know if that's really useful for day to day use. We'll see. Too many cool stuff that can be added, too few people working on this.
I'm sure we'll all be interested to hear about the further ideas for improvements. Are these going above and beyond the original TOS 2.xx and 4.xx series? At which point, a Falcon/TT version becomes of more interest.
Well, I don't want to give too much away (saves future disappointment too!) so let's just say that we want to add the stuff Atari gave as extras, as many as possible.
Especially on the Falcon there is about 200k free since we removed multilingual resources, so why not bundle stuff like an editor? Or a shell?
Again, these will be added in time - patience!
