Hi Pete,
yes, the STE is rare but of all the Atari computer systems, it has been one of
the more popular ones in the previous years, which we contributed to a bit ;-)
And if you enjoy writing your own OS on the STE, please do!
STOS and AMOS are very much alike and STOS even tries to simulate things
the ST doesn't do in hardware such as sprites or scrolling, but the power of
STOS is rather limited. There are extensions such as "The missing link" or
the STE extension and some of them are quite powerful. Yet, if you really
want to do impressive stuff on the STE, you will do it in assembly.
(And i know what i am talking about, i used STOS for almost 10 years).
I doubt anybody would anything for Atari STE software these days. But if
you're willing to make a fresh and original game from start to finish, you
can be sure that you'll easily find people willing to help.
