it depends a bit on what is your environment and plan...
if you pick all 3 ym pins directly from the chip, use resistors in series otherwise it may break very easy. as stefan said it's smart to add a switch so you can route audio back to the original STe out if wanted.

I modified several Ataris, in my studio i use a TT with 3 outputs connected to an analogue mixing desk and i find it very nice and handy to work with that. for live i used several years a more complicated mod (called YMixer), by bulding an analogue mixer inside the atari with precise level/panning controll for each channel, filters and stereo outs, unfortunately i never finalized schematics of it.
