Well, if you have more memory - increase the cache size in mint.cnf. When running mint, you don't need to use the cache in HDDriver.
I prefer memory protection, some don't. The advantage of memory protection is that if you only use software which is compatible with it, your system is entirely stable. No speed penalty.
Some stuff disagrees with memory protection, so you have a choice. IMHO there is no need for new stuff to be incompatible, but unfortunately some coders disagree or are unaware of this.
