if you type echo $SLBPATH on the command line, you get "u:/c/mint/1-16-cur/".

At least I do, and that was an EasyMiNT install. I put the EDITOBJ.SLB file in there. As Falcon060 said, it was a no-go. I'll try redefining the path and try again.
