Increasing Rev.6 Stability
Posted by: Crash Apr,30.2006-01:13

Greetings,

I'm trying to determine what speed my Rev.6 will run at, and am curious what factors could be to blame for system hangs or crashes.

In PC overclocking, I understand that noise is an issue, and that increasing voltage to the chip helps to overcome the noise level, at the expense of heat. Is there any way or benefit to increasing voltage to the 68060?

I'm wondering what is causing my crashes, since my CPU temperature does not increase when I change the speed from, for example, 90-100mhz. Could it be that the CPU can handle it, but my Kingston Valueram (PC133/256meg) is causing the problem?

If I increase the speed of the CPU to 100mhz, I start to get trouble booting with "Bad CRC in Rom E", SDRAM read failures, or fault screens. At 94mhz, the system will run for several hours, but I'll eventually get a hung system - although I can't be sure that isn't my test application (Phoenix II) or Magic that is to blame.

Any advice as to how I might determine the cause of the crashes would be appreciated.
