Today I tried even more versions.
They are all slow.
It seems that the version which is really playable (on my machine) is an unofficial version which has been linked against SDL 1.2.13.
The normal version is linked with SDL 1.2.11.
These unofficial versions where available on www.radix.net/~atari/
However that site is down now.
So the slow (unplayable) performance in the newer versions is due to this I expect.
Does anybody know if there are newer version of scummvm available based on the faster SDL library?
