I won't be a good help, but i use a quite similar set up without any issue.
It is stable and reliable, can run many hour without freeze or such bugs as "hot pixels" (i have never seen this).
So i will describe my set up, maybe you will find some ideas:
My CT63 runs at 95 mhz, and i use a Radeon 7000 64mo on my ctpci.
I didn't do the last update, if i remember well, the boot is 2.0 and driver is 1.0
I use Freemint 1-18 with Myaes, it works very well. You are right, the last time i tried Xaaes i discovered that it doesn't launch anymore.
And as you i use old 40 pin ide ribbon, no problem.
What sort of power supply do you use? it is enough powerful? I have a pico psu 120w (with the correct adapter 12v 10a) and it seems enough (no issue).
