I'am sure that Rodolphe use only the TOS.
If you not see DMA button inside Video (boot), the CPX know only the Videl.
It's possible that the cookie _PCI is destroyed during boot, I remember for exemple a bug with NVDI and EdDI cookie. Look the list under the desktop. It's possible that PCI XBIOS is destroyed (cookie is just used for test inside the CPXs - functions 300 - 353 ) or removed by another XBIOS handler.
Try also VIDEOCNF.CPX, detection is like CT60CONF.CPX (_PCI cookie test + PCI scan) excepted that you get "No Radeon PCI installed" and CPX is closed in this case.
PCI scan under radeon.sys use also XBIOS, but internal VDI call use access by cookie (faster direct access in supervisor) for radeon registers.
For help, I remember that Patrice has PCI tool, just an idea for start from the desktop.
Personally under xaaes.cnf, I use -fvideo x4503, -video isn't for st-tt modes ?
Else about mint crash, it's very stange I have never got problems before the CTPCI, and I was the first people to get the CT60, and the CT60 was really stable until 6 months. You're idea is good, but I havn't time to rebuild disk partition (13 partitions).
