CTCM unstable?
Posted by: wthorbjo May,13.2010-04:02

The CTCM on my CT63 has become very unstable; I believe the frequency setting becomes corrupt, so that the CT63 refuses to start up in 060 mode. Usually this happens after a system crash or freeze. I can often get it going again by booting to 030 mode and resetting the clock frequency with the CT60 CPX, but sometimes I have to cut the connection on the CTCM PCB that reduces the output frequency. I have now done this so many times that the solder traces on the CTCM PCB are becoming very eroded, and I've had to solder components directly to the IC. Rodolphe says he has no replacement CTCMs.

Has anyone had similar problems? Is it feasible to replace the CTCM with a fixed-frequency oscillator of some kind to ensure stability? I'd be willing to forego the adjustable frequency if it will get me a computer that will boot every time.
