Thanks for your feedback, guys! I really appreciate the help.

@mikro: I suspect the CTCM because reprogramming or resetting it always seems to fix the problems I'm having. Of course, one of the other issues you mention could be the real culprit. The CPU gets warm to the touch, but the very scientific "finger test" doesn't suggest to me that it's overheating. I've replaced the NVRAM chip recently due to a bad battery, and it works as far as I can tell (keeps correct time, etc).

@Didier: I looked at your site, and I understand better how the CTCM works now. I'm wondering if perhaps my ham-handed soldering has damaged the resistor and capacitor on the module, making it even more unstable with varying temperature. Maybe I should try replacing them.
