Some applications are inherently incompatible with memory protection and will never run properly. You could either treat such apps as the plague, in which you'll end up with a rock solid system, or you could persist on using them, and consequently end up with a flaky machine.
AFAIK HW has no issues with memory protection (I'm using it on all my machines, mp enabled).
