UPDATE
Posted by: FatRakoon Jul,31.2009-16:43

Ok, last night, I took the CT off the Falcon, and used the original PSU again.

I attached a brand new 2.5" Compact flash adapter directly to the Pins on the Falcon. This mans NO IDE CABLE AT ALL! and I used a brand new SANDISK 1GB CF Card.

So, with NOTHING in the system, I partitioned the card and installed HD Driver 8.16

Rebooted, it came up with the C: icon.

Great.

I then created a few folders ready for use... AUTO, GEMSYS, CLIPBRD, and a couple of others and then I installed NVDI 5.2

Again, shutdown and restart and it was fine.

Not wanting to get too silly, I decided to just keep things simple and see how things go like this, but I had to put a few basics on... XCONTROL.ACC and GENERAL.CPX for the 060 was added and again a restart to make sure everything is fine, and then I decided to add the CT63 again.

Started up as it shoul;d, and displayed the lines at the top of the screen, gave me the PRESS DELETE TO GET INTO THE BIOS notice further down and it hung.

Now, this is before ANY kind of files have even started to load, so that alone cannot possibly be file corruption.

It got back through, the second time and NVDI run, and it then got to the desktop.

Now, with NVDI, I should be fine here... I should be able to piddle abotu with the desktop for ever, I always have been able to and a few fiddles around in the menus was no different this time.

The smallest version of mint that I have found was uMint. I that but it hangs every time, and that apaprently should simply work regardless, so I dug it out, its on another Compact Flash card, and so I grabbed the original archive and extracted it and viola!

It crashes in the same place.

I get a MEMORY VIOLATION

So, I decided to use an 030 version of the MINT.PRG and I try again in 030 mode.

It crashes there too!

I take the CT off ocne again and on pure Falcon, it still crashes.

Now, this uMINT should not do that.

This means that since it is, and since I am ok to run SpareMint, and EasyMiNT, and yet, not this one, then why is that?

Does it need an Ethernet port and its crashing because its tryign to access one or is it my Falcon thats the issue?

I have fixed the SCSI issues before and now guess what is happening? - Thats right.

Could it be that this Falcon will never be right?

I think it might be time to keep my eyes open for a replacement Falcon I think?

I am going to see about getting this sent off, along with the CT and a Compact Flash reader & Card to show whoever can cure it what I mean. I know that while I am no expert on the Atari, I am not stupid either, confused yes, because I fix problem A and then have to fix problem B and then C but once I have fixed C then Problem A comes back up... Ad infinitum.
