Laurent's Falcon is a clean system with no mods. However I'm not sure the chip has been inspected yet.

It could be the board, yes. A duff track, solder blob, bad signal - or just a dirty pin on the chip or socket.

It must be at least partly working - the more common operations (mul/add) seem to do the right thing. div - or some other more complex ops - do seem buggy...
