Sound crackling when DMA sound is playing reminds me of a problem that MegaSTEs have, which boils down to a faulty COMBEL chip (which is essentially shifter+blitter on the same chip). I know my MSTE exhibited such a problem (for example loading TalkTalk2 the looped samples would sound distorted).
You can check if your code is working properly by trying it on an emulator (STEem or hatari should be ok). Otherwise you could upload a binary for other people to test on real machines.
If it's proven that the COMBEL is faulty then you can try to source another one and replacing it on your machine or look around and buy another STE cheaply :)
