Ok, I've tried the Atari Compendium method, and now it seems to be working. It runs on the real machine, and for the first time, it runs with disk images in STeem.
This said with the reservation that the behaviour has changed between compiles, but since it has NEVER worked in STeem before, I feel fairly confident that the problem is solved.
Thanks a lot to everyone who replied in this thread, a weight is off my shoulders! So now I can spend more time coding productively, instead of chasing strange errors. 8-)
