it depends on the hard disc driver you're using... some are just using timer c and thus you can do whatever you want of the interrupt... but some other drivers may use it, so be careful.
note that you can use FDC even if you start from hd, and even access the hd with this interrupt, it's safe as long as you don't use write operations ;-)
